Maryland defeated Ohio State 3-1 on Wednesday at Buckeye Varsity Field to close out the Buckeyes' Big Ten Tournament appearance. The No. 2-seeded Terrapins advanced past the quarterfinals, ending a late-season surge that had kept the Buckeyes in postseason contention.

Maryland established control early in the contest. Francisca Eschoyez and Babs van Hest, the team's leading scorers, found the back of the net in the first quarter. Eschoyez scored from a penalty corner, while van Hest added a transition goal. The Terrapins extended their lead in the fourth quarter when Ella Beach scored the final goal.

Ohio State responded near the end of the second quarter. Phillippa Jowett capitalized on a penalty corner to cut the deficit to 2-1. The Buckeyes held the ball in the third quarter, but Maryland's fourth-quarter goal sealed the result. This was the second time this season Maryland had beaten Ohio State, having won the regular-season meeting 4-0 on Oct. 18.

Head coach Jarred Martin noted that the team improved after the initial deficit. He stated that the defensive unit managed Maryland's overheads and quick counter-attacks better after the first quarter. Martin also pointed out that the team showed resilience by fighting back despite being put on their heels.

The Buckeyes entered the tournament after winning their final two regular-season games. Those victories, which included a win over rival Michigan, came after the team lost its first six conference matches. Martin described the group's persistence during the mid-season slump as a sign of their closeness as a team.

The next scheduled event for the Ohio State field hockey program will occur in the spring. The team will begin preparation for the upcoming season following this tournament exit.
