Sentencing for British actor and comedian Russell Brand is scheduled for Monday following his conviction at Southwark Crown Court in London. The 51-year-old was found guilty on Thursday of rape and three counts of sexual assault. He stands accused of exploiting women over a period of several years.

The jury, composed of eight men and four women, delivered its verdicts after approximately eight and a half hours of deliberation. Brand was found guilty of raping a young fan in 2009. The pair had met at one of his comedy shows in west London. He was also convicted of three other sexual assaults involving different victims.

The additional offences spanned from 2004 to 2009. In 2004, the jury found he groped an MTV employee at a bar in central London. In 2005, he was convicted of kissing and groping a woman at her workplace. In 2009, he was found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman after forcing her to give him a massage.

The court cleared Brand of two additional rape charges and one count of attempted indecent assault. Judge Joel Bennathan described the case as very well prepared. He stated that the conviction would inevitably result in a significant custodial term. Brand remained standing in the dock during the reading of the verdicts. He closed his eyes upon hearing the guilty verdict for rape and has since been remanded in custody.

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy of the Metropolitan Police Service addressed the outcome. He stated that Brand used his influence, status, and celebrity profile to exploit and sexually offend against women. Furphy noted that Brand's growing public profile was accompanied by an increasing sense of entitlement. He expressed hope that the conviction sends a clear message that nobody is above the law, regardless of fame or position.
