More than 2,000 people are expected to receive tattoos at the Dublin Tattoo Convention next weekend. The event runs from November 6 through November 8 at the RDS Main Hall.
Over 250 tattoo artists will occupy the space for three days. They will offer live tattooing sessions, piercings, and competitions. The venue will also host an alternative market and live entertainment.
Visitors can watch ink take shape on skin or review artists' portfolios. Some attendees plan to get their first tattoo, while others intend to add to existing collections. Organizers note that many people use ink to commemorate special moments or people.
A 2017 survey by iReach Insights provides context on these trends. The study polled 1,000 adults in Ireland. It found that one in five adults had at least one tattoo. Among those with tattoos, 43% said they got them to remember someone or something. Another 28% cited the desire to express creativity.
The convention is open to families, and children under 14 enter for free. People who want a specific artist can contact them before arriving. Walk-up appointments are also available with participating artists.
