Brighton held on for a 1-0 victory over Manchester City on Saturday, knocking the league leaders out of top spot. Yasin Ayari scored in the first half to give the Seagulls the win. The result avenges Brighton's loss to City in the Carabao Cup earlier in the week. Manager Fabian Hurzeler had spoken publicly about his desire for revenge following that midweek shootout defeat at the Etihad Stadium. Ayari, who had missed a penalty in that prior match, found the net early to secure the points for Brighton.

This was Manchester City's second consecutive defeat in the Premier League. The club had started the season with a record of seven wins in a row. The loss means Arsenal now has a chance to take the top position when they play Liverpool on Sunday. For Brighton, the win keeps them competitive in the upper half of the table. The match at the Amex Stadium ended with City unable to break through a resilient defensive unit.

Tottenham Hotspur extended their winning streak to three games with a 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace. It is the first time in 20 months that Spurs have won three league matches in a row. The game turned in the 13th minute when Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta was sent off for a studs-up tackle on Micky van de Ven. VAR reviewed the incident and referee Michael Oliver confirmed the red card. Archie Gray opened the scoring with a header 25 minutes into the match. Jan Paul van Hecke added a second goal for Spurs with 17 minutes remaining. Roberto De Zerbi used the final minutes to give teenager Luca Williams-Barnett his league debut.

Nottingham Forest lost 2-0 at Brentford, keeping them in the bottom three of the table. Igor Thiago scored the second goal for Brentford in the second half. Nikola Milenkovic hit a freak own goal to put Brentford ahead early in the match. Forest had 15 shots at goal, with only one on target, compared to Brentford's seven efforts. Brentford ended a four-match winless run with the victory. The game marked the 100th Premier League match at the Gtech Stadium.

Coventry City climbed out of the relegation zone with a 3-1 win over Sunderland. Tatsuhiro Sakamoto scored his first Premier League goal for Coventry in the 17th minute. Taiwo Awoniyi added his first league goal for the club eight minutes before halftime. Jack Rudoni scored early in the second half to make it 3-0. Sunderland reduced the deficit in the 67th minute when Carl Rushworth converted a penalty. Sunderland finished the match with 10 men after Omar Alderete received a second yellow card in stoppage time. The win lifts Coventry above the bottom three, while Sunderland remains at the bottom of the table.

Bournemouth beat Leeds United 2-0 at the Vitality Stadium. A mistake by Leeds goalkeeper James Trafford led to the first goal. Justin Kluivert set up Evanilson to score in the 31st minute. Amine Adli scored in added time to seal the win. This is Bournemouth's third straight win in the top flight. Leeds' winless run has stretched to five games. Dominic Calvert-Lewin had a goal ruled out for handball in the 11th minute.

Hull City drew 2-2 with Ipswich Town at the MKM Stadium. Florentino Luis opened the scoring for Ipswich in the 22nd minute. Tim Iroegbunam equalized for Hull in the 58th minute. Oli McBurnie put Hull ahead in the 68th minute. Julio Enciso scored a late equalizer for Ipswich to level the match. The draw keeps Hull's home unbeaten record intact, though they remain winless overall.
