DNC chair Ken Martin says voters sent a clear message for a new direction in Washington.

Residents of Columbus and Ohio will see a shift in federal power after Democrats won control of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives in the November election. The party also captured key governorships and state legislatures, reversing its 2024 losses and strengthening its position for the final two years of President Trump's term.
Ken Martin, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, called the results the party's best performance in a century. He stated that Americans sent a clear message during the vote, indicating a desire for leaders who advocate for the general public rather than just the wealthy and well-connected.
Martin said voters gave Democrats a mandate to address affordability, health care, and a system he described as benefiting wealthy Americans. However, the path to turning these promises into law remains complex because President Trump retains veto power.
Despite the challenges, Martin believes Democrats hold strong leverage with their control of Congress and various state governments. He noted that opposition to President Trump helped drive the results, but he argued that voters also embraced the party's specific policy proposals.
"Our candidates across the board ran for something, not against something," Martin said. He added that the campaigns provided people with a positive vision of what Democrats would do while in power.
