Dublin City Council is organizing the SoCircular Christmas Market, an event designed to promote sustainability and local commerce. The market will feature more than 30 participants, including independent creators, businesses, and community organizations.

This is the first time the historic civic venue has hosted a Christmas market. The event is scheduled for Sunday, December 6, and will run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free for all visitors.

The market focuses on the circular economy by offering goods that reduce waste. Stalls will sell handmade gifts, jewelry, skincare products, homeware, books, and locally produced food. Vendors will also display decorations made from recycled glass, reclaimed textiles, and biodegradable wreaths. Some artwork on display is created using recycled coffee pods.

A dedicated section called 'Gift an Experience' will offer alternatives to physical goods. This area will feature workshops, outings, arts and cultural events, and nature-based activities. Local choirs will perform at the City Hall throughout the day.

Community groups will run specific activities for attendees. Change Clothes, a textile reuse organization based in Dublin 8, will host drop-in sessions for making upcycled wreaths. They will also run pre-booked workshops where visitors can create reusable Christmas crackers. The Hygiene Hub, a charity addressing hygiene poverty, will collect unopened and unused hygiene products for redistribution to those in need before the holidays.

Daryl Barron, the Lord Mayor of Dublin, noted that the event provides a chance to support local makers and social enterprises. He described the market as a memorable day out that encourages a more sustainable approach to the holiday season.
