Research indicates that access to a personal vehicle is a primary factor in voter turnout, particularly among young people and residents of rural counties. WayGO Transportation Manager Kevin White noted that the lack of vehicle access makes basic errands and voting difficult in areas with low population density. "If you want to go vote or even if you want to go to a grocery store, it's just very difficult," White said. "They can't because they just don't have that access to transportation. It's a tough thing with a lack of density."

WayGO began providing public transportation near Wooster in 2025 after a countywide program ended due to funding issues. This year, the agency is extending free rides to voters for the first time. White explained that the initiative aims to support residents who cannot drive or lack a vehicle. "We wanted to kind of partner with the community just to say, hey, we want you to have your voice and get out and vote," he said. Residents of Wooster can schedule trips by calling the dispatch line.

Several other transit systems in the state are offering similar benefits. In Summit County, Akron METRO Regional Transit Authority will provide free fares on METRO Direct and METRO ADA services on Nov. 3. In Lake County, Laketran will offer complimentary rides to polling locations and the board of elections for early voting. Geauga Transit in Geauga County is providing the same service. Both agencies require reservations made at least one day in advance.

Stark Area Regional Transit Authority will give free rides to all passengers in Stark County on Nov. 3. The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority stated it will run normal, full-schedule weekday operations on Election Day. These measures aim to reduce the logistical barrier for voters who rely on public transit.

Rideshare services are also participating in the effort. The Vote to Live Foundation is distributing $25 to $30 vouchers for voters in the Cleveland, Akron, and Columbus areas. Residents in Cuyahoga County can receive free Uber rides. Lyft is offering a 50% discount on rides to polling places, capped at $10 off, using the code VOTE26 in the app.

In rural areas with limited infrastructure, volunteers are coordinating individual trips. In Carroll County, Democratic Party Chair Dave Devey said his team is arranging rides as needed. "Frankly, it's none of our business who they vote for," Devey said. "We just think it's important for everyone to have the opportunity to be able to vote."
