Met Eireann's national forecast points to mostly dry and calm conditions across Ireland on Sunday, Oct. 26's Halloween weekend, after three storms in recent days brought flooding, power outages and several Status Orange weather warnings. Storm Austen and Storm Boelo were among the systems that crossed the country.
Thursday night remains cloudy and breezy, with rain or drizzle spreading from the southwest and west toward the eastern half of Ireland. Temperatures hold between 10 and 13 degrees, with fresh to strong southerly winds.
Friday stays largely cloudy, with rain moving eastward through the morning. The east coast holds the best chance of drier, brighter weather, and temperatures could reach 13 to 15 degrees. Rain continues overnight, though the southeast may see clearer, drier spells.
Saturday opens cloudy and wet across the north and west. Rain shifts southeastward and turns lighter and patchier, with temperatures reaching 12 to 14 degrees.
The change arrives Sunday as high pressure builds over Ireland, bringing mostly dry and calm conditions. Sunny spells are expected across much of the country, though the northern half may stay cloudier. Temperatures run cooler, from 9 to 13 degrees, with light northerly winds.
Weather Alerts Ireland said the high-pressure system could approach the Irish October record of 1043.8 hectopascals, set at Sherkin Island in 2018. The group noted the forecast pressure could reach 1043 and, depending on positioning, come close to a new record. It also noted high pressure does not guarantee sunshine everywhere, but the system would bring calmer, drier conditions than the prior week.
Met Eireann's Thursday forecast posted on Oct. 28 called for mostly cloudy conditions at first with scattered rain, clearing to isolated showers and sunny spells through the morning, with highs of 12 to 15 degrees. Most areas were expected to see a dry day with only a chance of well-scattered light showers.
Rain is expected to continue overnight Friday into Saturday. Sunday remains the best day of the weekend for being outdoors, with conditions varying by location.
