A nonprofit focused on waterfront development has unveiled a new vision for Cleveland's lakefront that could reshape the area around Huntington Bank Field once the Browns leave for a new stadium. The plan covers about 50 acres of city-owned land and was announced on Monday, Oct. 26.

The proposal includes new streets, public spaces and a signature park on the site where the football field currently stands. It also calls for a pedestrian and bike corridor leading to the water. Officials say the design is intentionally flexible, since future uses for any buildings have not yet been decided.

Planners say the central aim is to keep the shoreline open to everyone. "Our commitment is to ensure that the lakefront is always accessible by the general public," said Jason Russell, vice president of planning and development for the North Coast Waterfront Development Corp.

The group hopes to begin construction on the public spaces in late 2027. The plans now move to City Hall, where they will go through a public review process.

The high school football postseason also gets under way this week in Ohio. The top four teams in each region receive a first-round bye, including a number of local teams across all seven divisions. The forecast for Monday called for a few high clouds filtering the sun, with temperatures in the upper 60s to near 70 degrees, which is notably warm for late October. Rain is expected to stay out of the forecast until late in the week, when isolated light showers return.
