Canton residents living near 5th Street NW and Clarendon Avenue NW faced a heavy police presence Friday as officers executed two search warrants. The operation led to 18 arrests across the two locations.

Chief John Gabbard said the Canton Police Coordinated Response Team carried out the searches. They were assisted by the Stark County Regional SWAT Team, the Community Involvement Unit, the Stark County Sheriff’s Office METRO Unit, the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, and the ATF.

At 927 5th St. NW, officers determined the home was uninhabitable. The city’s health and code departments were notified. The humane society removed six dogs and three cats from the property. Police also recovered one firearm, narcotics, and drug paraphernalia. Seventeen people were arrested at this location, with charges ranging from felonies to misdemeanors.

The second warrant was served at an apartment at 1020 Clarendon Ave. NW. The police release noted that a large amount of U.S. currency and narcotics were seized. One person was arrested during that search.

The investigation remains open, and additional criminal charges are pending. The Canton Police Department Detective Bureau is asking for public information at 330-489-3144.
