Con O'Callaghan kicked a two-point from the edge of the arc to give Cuala a 0-16 victory over Tullamore in the Leinster Senior Football Championship quarter-final. The decisive shot landed in the final moments of the match played at Parnell Park. Cuala will face Sarsfields in the next round. Sarsfields recently won the Kildare championship. That match is scheduled for next Saturday at Parnell Park.

The scoreline reflects how close the contest remained throughout the ninety minutes. The teams were level on seven separate occasions. Tullamore led by two points at half-time. They trailed by three points late in the second half before Harry Plunkett tied the game. Cuala held a two-point lead for only a few minutes before O'Callaghan's final kick ended the tie.

Harry Plunkett was the top scorer for Tullamore with 0-2-6. He kicked four frees and one 45-meter point. Luke Plunkett scored the only goal of the game for Tullamore just before the break. Darragh O'Dowd took the kickouts for Cuala. Cuala manager Derek Dunne noted that his team won 70 percent of kickouts in the second half. He said they had 85 percent retention on their own kickouts.

Tullamore finished with a 1-11 total. They conceded 16 points to Cuala's 1-11. Cuala's Con O'Callaghan finished with 0-1-4. He kicked two frees and one 45-meter point. David O'Dowd and P. O'Cofaigh Byrne each kicked two frees for Cuala. N. O'Callaghan kicked three frees for Cuala. E. Kennedy, C. McMorrow, and E. O'Callaghan each kicked one free for Cuala. D. Egan kicked one free for Tullamore.

Derek Dunne said the close result was a positive sign for his team. He stated that the idea of Dublin teams easily winning Leinster was wrong. He praised the quality of the Tullamore squad. He also noted that the standard across Leinster has risen in recent years. He described the championship as very competitive and hard to win.

Tullamore had previously won only three games in Leinster. Two of those wins came in 2024 and 2025. This was their tenth loss from fourteen appearances in the province in club history. They are the Offaly champions with 32 titles to their name. They hoped to make a greater mark in the 2026 provincial campaign.

The referee for the match was P. Coyle from Meath. Cuala substituted J. Conroy for D. O'Sullivan in the 46th minute. Tullamore substituted M. Brazil for D. Keegan and L. Dillane for L. Plunkett in the 53rd minute. L. Bourke replaced N. Furlong for Tullamore in the 54th minute.

The match featured intense kicking contests. Harry Plunkett scored three points after the break for Tullamore. This included a two-pointer and a single. Cuala outscored Tullamore by 0-8 to 0-1 in a 15-minute stretch after the 39th minute. This run helped Cuala take control before the final equalizer.
