Drivers across Ireland will pay higher fees to use toll roads beginning on 1 January 2027. Transport Infrastructure Ireland has approved a series of price increases that apply to all ten toll roads on the national network.
The changes affect both public toll roads and the eight roads managed under public-private partnership agreements. The M50 and Dublin Port Tunnel are public toll roads operated on behalf of the authority. The remaining eight roads are managed under private contracts.
For cars using the M50, the cost will rise by 10 cent per journey for drivers who use a registered tag or video account. Those without a tag will see their toll increase by 20 cent. The current cost for cars ranges from €2.60 to €3.80, depending on the payment method.
Goods vehicles will face different increases based on weight and registration status. Vehicles weighing no more than 2,000kg will see a 10 cent increase for unregistered or tagged drivers, while registered video account users will pay 20 cent more. Heavier goods vehicles will face increases of either 20 or 30 cent.
The Dublin Port Tunnel will introduce a higher charge during the morning rush hour. From January, drivers traveling southbound toward Dublin between 6am and 10am on weekdays will pay €15 instead of the current €14. Tolls at other times of day will remain unchanged.
Transport Infrastructure Ireland stated that the additional charge reflects increased traffic during the southbound morning peak. The authority noted the need to preserve capacity for heavy goods vehicles accessing the port. For the eight public-private partnership toll roads, car and motorcycle charges on the M3 from Clonee to Kells will stay at current rates.
At all other public-private partnership locations, car tolls will increase by 10 cent. Heavy goods vehicle charges will generally rise by 20 cent. Vehicles weighing more than 3,500kg with four axles will see a 30 cent increase, except on the M3 Clonee to Kells, where the increase will be 10 cent. The authority said toll charges are regulated through an inflation adjustment mechanism.
