A man who became ill inside a Newark bookstore on Friday, Oct. 23 has since paid for the damage, Holland's Book Nook said in an update to its earlier social media post. The store had asked the person involved to take responsibility for the incident.

The episode occurred around 7 p.m. at Holland's Book Nook, located in the Newark Arcade at 31 N 3rd St, Unit 9 and 11. A man entered the store and began feeling unwell. Security footage captured him becoming sick along a bookshelf, which damaged five books and the shelving itself. He then left the store without telling a staff member.

The store posted about the damage on Facebook and later contacted the person responsible. According to Holland's Book Nook, he acknowledged what happened and covered the cost of the damaged property. The original post and the security footage have since been removed from the store's social media accounts.

Among the items damaged was a display of a local author's work, the store said. Holland's Book Nook is a small, locally owned business that carries books by local authors. The store's Facebook post noted that getting sick is an accident, but how a person handles the situation afterward is a matter of responsibility.
