Land-Grant Brewing Company acquired the Nocterra brand and its Powell taproom on Thursday.

The Columbus-based buyer plans to reopen the Nocterra location in late November. The acquisition includes the rights to brew Nocterra beers at Land-Grant’s Franklinton production facility. These beers will return to retailers, bars, and restaurants throughout Central Ohio. The new owners also plan a temporary closure in January 2027. This pause will allow for an extensive renovation of the taproom space.

Adam Benner, president and co-founder of Land-Grant, said the original owners created a distinct community. He noted that Nocterra built more than a beer lineup. Walt Keys, creative director and co-founder of Land-Grant, emphasized the team’s respect for the Nocterra founders. He stated that the new owners view the purchase as a continuation rather than a replacement. The original founders of Nocterra are Bryan Duncan, Lori Duncan, and Bruce Vivian. Land-Grant credited them with building a brand that has become an important part of Powell’s community.

The reopened taproom will operate as an immersive Christmas pop-up. The space will feature holiday decorations, specialty cocktails in themed glassware, and a Christmas Ale. A beer garden will include rentable heated igloos. The location sits less than 10 minutes from the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. This proximity offers a convenient stop for visitors attending the Wildlights event. The renovation plans focus on expanding usable space and improving the guest experience. Land-Grant also intends to bring elements of its Wintergarden experience to Powell. This may introduce new seasonal activities and year-round gathering opportunities.

The craft beer industry has faced rising operating costs and shifting consumer habits in recent years. Land-Grant has had a productive year in the beer scene. The brewery earned a bronze medal at the 2026 World Beer Cup for its Great Falls Scotch Ale. It also landed on USA TODAY’s 2026 list of the Best Bars in America. Specific reopening dates and beer availability details will be announced in the coming weeks.
