Leinster defeated Connacht 50-5 on Friday night at the Dexcom in Salthill, Galway. The match was played in heavy rain and strong winds blowing in from the Atlantic. Despite the difficult conditions, Leinster controlled the game from start to finish, scoring seven tries to one.

This victory marks Leinster’s 14th consecutive win against Connacht. It is also their largest winning margin in a match against the province since a 53-8 victory in October 1999. The result extends their dominance over the Connacht team, who have not beaten the champions in recent memory.

Leinster displayed superior execution throughout the contest. The visiting team made 14 line breaks compared to zero for Connacht. They also won the majority of the ground ball battles. Connacht struggled with their kick-chase game, losing three of their first four lineouts and kicking out on the full twice in the early stages.

The scoring began in the 16th minute when Gus McCarthy scored Leinster’s first try. Joey Carbery converted. Jordan Larmour added a second try in the 25th minute. Connacht’s only score came in the 28th minute when Dave Heffernan crossed for a try, bringing the halftime score to 21-5 in favor of Leinster.

In the second half, Leinster continued their attack. Fintan Gunne and Max Deegan found the try line, with Carbery converting both. Carbery also scored a try himself in the 60th minute. Ciaran Mangan picked off a pass by Josh Ioane for an intercept try in the 72nd minute. Gunne scored the final try in the 77th minute to seal the 50-5 victory.

Key performances for Leinster included strong efforts from Brian Deeny and Max Deegan. James Culhane returned from a hamstring injury to play a full 68 minutes. Connacht was missing eight front-row players, a significant absence that affected their pack performance. Leinster missed 17 players but relied on their depth to overcome the deficit.

The referee for the match was Hollie Davidson from Scotland. The game concluded with Leinster having possession in 89% of the first half and 72% of the second. The final score was 50-5, a decisive result that highlights the gap in form between the two provinces.
