Dublin commuters will face a two day halt on the Luas Red Line next week. The suspension will run from Thursday, November 12, to Friday, November 13, as the city prepares for the arrival of European leaders.

Trams will stop running between Connolly and The Point during those two days. Service from Tallaght and Saggart to Connolly will continue. The Luas Green Line will operate on its normal schedule. Regular Red Line service to The Point is scheduled to return on Saturday, November 14.

The changes support a major Garda security operation. Approximately 50 European leaders will travel to Dublin for two meetings at the Convention Centre. Authorities described the effort as the largest security operation in the history of the State.

Road closures will accompany the tram suspension. East west traffic on North Wall Quay, located in front of the Convention Centre, will be closed from Tuesday, November 10, until Friday evening. North south traffic on Guild Street and Samuel Beckett Bridge will also be restricted from Wednesday evening until Friday evening.

The restrictions will impact motorists, public transport users, and residents in the Docklands area. Gardaí have asked business owners to schedule deliveries and contractor work on days other than Thursday and Friday. Wednesday, November 11, is also a day to avoid for such activities where possible.

A dinner for visiting leaders is set for Thursday evening at the National Gallery on Merrion Square. Security restrictions will expand around that location. Travelers heading to Dublin city centre, Dublin Airport, or Dublin Port between Tuesday and Friday should expect delays.

Gardaí advise people to allow extra time for their journeys and to check public transport updates before leaving home. Passengers are told to follow instructions from officers on the ground. The Luas and Transport for Ireland websites will carry the latest service updates.
