Ulster Rugby remains without a victory in the current United Rugby Championship season after a 33-7 defeat to the Stormers in Cape Town on Friday. The loss marks the second consecutive game for the province during their South African tour, following a recent match against the Bulls. Despite the final scoreline, the contest remained tight through the first half, with the Stormers leading by only five points at the interval.

Ulster manager Richie Murphy sent nine key players home to prepare for Ireland's upcoming Nations Championship campaign. Pundits estimated the visitors had less than a 10 percent chance of winning against the home side. The Stormers established early dominance in the scrum, applying intense pressure on the Ulster defensive line during the opening quarter.

Ulster struck first at the 20-minute mark. Captain David McCann crossed the line from a quick tap. Murphy converted the kick to give the visitors a 7-0 lead. McCann also set up the scoring play by intercepting a wayward Stormers pass and driving his team into the opposition 22.

Matthew Devine threatened to extend the lead five minutes later. The 24-year-old halfback broke down the short side of a scrum just inside the Stormers' half. Devine maintained a constant presence on the fringes and cleared scrums quickly to limit the home team's scrummaging advantage.

The Stormers responded with two consecutive maul penalties. Ulster tighthead prop Keynan Knox received a yellow card at the 33-minute mark for a lineout infringement. The pressure shifted the momentum to the home side. Lock JD Schickerling powered across for the Stormers' first try to level the score at 7-7. Young flanker P de Villiers then charged down a clearance attempt by Jack Murphy to score just before halftime, putting the Stormers ahead 12-7.

Evan Roos broke the deadlock in the second half. Six minutes into the second stanza, the Stormers number eight burst clear from 70 meters out to score a solo try. Ahmed converted the kick to extend the lead to 19-7. The subsequent 25 minutes featured unforced errors from both squads.

The Stormers secured the result in the final ten minutes. Captain Ruan Nel scored at the 71-minute mark, followed by a try and conversion by Ahmed at the 77-minute mark. The final score settled at 33-7.

Ulster maintained control in the final metrics of the match. The visitors held 56 percent of possession and 55 percent of territory. However, the team conceded 12 turnovers. Juarno Augustus led the physical battle at the breakdown, while fullback Ethan McIlroy provided counter-attacking speed. Murphy's team now returns to Belfast with until December 5 to prepare for the next phase of their campaign.
