October 30th sits in the record books for several music events spanning 1970 to 2002.

In 1970, a Miami judge fined Jim Morrison of The Doors and gave him a six-month sentence after a jury found him guilty of exposing himself during a performance. The next year, on October 30, 1971, Imagine by John Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band reached No. 1 on the UK album chart. Blondie issued 'Hanging on the Telephone' on that date in 1978 as the second single from Parallel Lines.

A Guns N' Roses case landed in court in 1990. Singer Axl Rose posted $10,000 bail after his arrest on a charge of hitting a neighbor over the head with a bottle. Police had been called to the singer's house over loud music. Black Sabbath's four original members played 'Paranoid' together on the David Letterman Show on October 30, 1998.

Jam Master Jay of Run-DMC was shot dead at his Queens, New York, recording studio on October 30, 2002. One bullet killed him.

Forbes put out its top-earning dead celebrities list on October 30, 2019. Michael Jackson took in $60 million that year, his seventh straight year at the top of that list, as streams of his music reached 2.1 billion. Elvis Presley earned $39 million, John Lennon $14 million, and George Harrison an estimated $9 million over the previous 12 months.

October 30 is also the birthday of Grace Slick of Jefferson Airplane and Starship, AC/DC drummer Chris Slade, and Eagles member Timothy B. Schmit.
