Columbus listeners tuning into Radio Nova 100FM received a curated list of musical anniversaries on November 1, 2026, centered on the release of new music from The Cure. The band issued their fourteenth studio album, 'Songs of a Lost World,' on that date. This release marked the first new material from the group in 16 years.
The station's daily segment, which airs just before 11 a.m., pairs current news with historical context. For this date, the programming highlighted a 1968 release by George Harrison. Harrison published 'Wonderwall Music' on the Apple label. The album consisted mostly of instrumentals and featured performances by Eric Clapton and Ringo Starr. Peter Tork of The Monkees provided unaccredited banjo work on the record.
Other entries in the historical review covered chart successes from previous decades. In 1969, Elvis Presley reached number one on the US singles chart with 'Suspicious Minds.' That track became his 18th US number one hit and peaked at number two in the UK. In 1970, Matthews Southern Comfort topped the UK singles chart with their cover of Joni Mitchell's 'Woodstock.' It was the only UK number one hit for the group.
The segment also noted the death of Ray Pohlman in 1990. The American session musician and arranger died of heart failure at age 60. Pohlman was credited as the first electric bass player in Los Angeles studios during the 1950s. He was a member of The Wrecking Crew, a group that recorded with Phil Spector and The Beach Boys.
In 2012, Metal Hammer magazine published a list ranking the top ten rock and heavy metal moustaches. The list included Frank Zappa, James Hetfield, and Lemmy. Freddie Mercury was placed at the top of the ranking. All members of Black Sabbath appeared on the list, except Ozzy Osbourne.
The station also acknowledged the birthdays of two prominent musicians on November 1: Anthony Kiedis of Red Hot Chili Peppers and Rick Allen of Def Leppard.
