Radio Nova 100FM recently compiled a list of major musical events that took place on November 6th. The station airs a segment just before 11 a.m. to revisit these moments, but the following details outline the key dates in rock history.
In 1964, The Beach Boys appeared live on ITV's Ready Steady Go! during their first promotional visit to the United Kingdom. Four years later, in 1970, Aerosmith played their first ever gig. The band performed at Nipmuc Regional High School in Mendon, Massachusetts. Often called the Bad Boys from Boston, the group went on to become the best-selling American rock band of all time with more than 150 million albums sold worldwide.
The Sex Pistols made their live debut in 1975 at St Martin’s School of Art in central London. They supported a band called Bazooka Joe, which included Stuart Goddard, who later became Adam Ant. The Pistols’ entire performance lasted only 10 minutes.
In 2007, Meat Loaf cancelled his European tour after doctors diagnosed a cyst on his vocal cords. The 60-year-old singer had already scrapped two gigs on doctor's orders. Speculation about the tour grew after he cut short a gig in Newcastle, telling the audience it was the last show he might ever do in his life.
Cellist Hugh McDowell died in 2018 at age 65. He was part of ELO in its early days and played in the band's first live lineup at age 19. McDowell also worked with Roy Wood in the band Wizzard. The date is also the birthday of Glen Frey, who would have turned another year older today.
